Foxhunters Return is less than half an hour's drive to some of Tasmania's most scenic destinations. Campbell Town is surrounded by historic villages and towns. Just 10 minutes south lies the heritage listed village of Ross a picturesque reminder of bygone days. Take in the architecture of Ross' 1836 sandstone bridge with it's intricate carvings then take a walk around the village taking in the unspoilt feel of this delightful town. Just another 15 minutes south down the Heritage Highway towards Hobart lies Oatlands another important heritage town with a rich history. Boasting perhaps the largest stock of surviving sandstone buildings in any town in Australia, Oatlands marks the halfway point between Hobart & Launceston. Don't miss the Callington Mill currently being restored to once again mill wheat for baking.

North of Campbell Town take a detour to Woolmers Estate a remarkable example of living history. This remarkable property is something of a time capsule detailing colonial life on a rural property from the early 1800's through to modern times. Settled around 1817 by William Archer, it remained in the one family's hands for 6 generations through to 1994 when the property was bequeathed to the Archer Historical Foundation. Recently nominated for World Heritage Listing, the extensive grounds at Woolmers are home to the National Rose Garden.

A little further north take the time to meander through the streets of Evandale, another delightful village with a rich history and some wonderful examples of early Colonial architecture. Famous for its regular Sunday country market Evandale is also home to the World Penny Farthing Championships in February each year.

Campbell Town and Foxhunters Return is also a great stepping stone to many of Tasmania's prime tourist destinations. Avoid the hassle of packing up every day and use Foxhunters as a base to explore the North, East or West of the state. The East Coast is less than one hour's drive from Campbell Town and is a pleasant day trip. Take the Lake Leake Highway to the coast at Bicheno then head north to St Mary's stopping along the way to enjoy the coastal views. Turn south at the coast and head to Kabuki by the Sea, a Japanese Restaurant set on a coastal hilltop overlooking Great Oyster Bay. Enjoy a meal whilst admiring the amazing views then spend the afternoon visiting the East Coast's vineyards. Campbell Town is also conveniently located for anglers heading to Tasmania's Lake Country in search of world class fly fishing.
